Runaway Ray is comforted by Mary Kate Fowler and friends after being loaded into a trailer to take him back to her home in Lake Bay, Wash. on May 9, 2015. Ray had been sent to a public livestock auction by Pierce County Animal Control weeks after Fowler reported finding him wandering the streets. Her requests to adopt him were denied. Pierce County Animal Control said once a pony or horse is under their control, by law, it must go to auction. The pony sold for a whopping $625 at the Enumclaw Sale Pavilion. Typically a pony of Ray's age would go for between $50-$100. (© Karen Ducey / Animal News Northwest)
