Rex Buck Jr., leader of the Wanapum Indians is photographed on a hillside surrounded by power lines and the Columbia River behind him on February 3, 2011. "The river flows in us and we're a part of the river and we're also a part of this land." said Buck. The Wanapum Indians never moved onto a reservation but negotiated peacefully with a power company to remain on their land. The power company today is the Grant County Public Utility District.
