10/20/03 crab NWS:: Crab boats leave Dutch Harbor and head to the Bristol Bay red king fishing grounds as seen through the mast holding sodium vapor lights of the F/V Exito. The crab fishing grounds are approximately 24 hours away, or 160 miles, in Bristol Bay. This year's ADFG forecast of 14.7 million pounds was the largest projected harvest of Bristol Bay red king crab in 12 years. It will be several weeks before crabbers know if that harvest was met.
